Katarina Wit started skating when she was five years old. When her talent for skating began to show and she was accepted into an Karl-Marx-Stadt school that is geared towards children who have a sporting talent. The school where she was enrolled, she was introduced to their teacher Jutta Muler. Witt made her breakthrough season in 1982 when she came second in the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Her elegance and grace caught everybody's eye, and from that point ahead she became the dominant figure skater in the sport. Olympic victory At the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the women's silver medal in figure skating after a close-fought competition. In a tighter competition four years later, Witt took home her gold medal. Her free skate was an unbeatable loss. However, the gold medal was awarded to her because of her performances in both the compulsory figures (short program) as well as the mandatory figures. Witt became the first female multiple winner in figure skating, following Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt competed in the Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 following a career that was successful as an actor. The crowd was captivated by her, despite the fact that she was seventh. Witt's entry into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame occurred in the year 1995.
